CAMPUS AND UNIVERSITY CONCERT BANDS

Concert Bands open to non-music majors (or music majors on secondary instruments)

University Band: 

Audition for placement. Repertoire consists of mainly grades 5 and 6 and is the more advanced of the non-major concert bands.

Campus Band: 

Playing assessment for part assignments only; everyone is welcome to play. Repertoire consists of grades 3 to 5.

Instrumentation: Both ensembles use full wind ensemble instrumentation. Pianists and string bass players are encouraged to participate!!!


FALL TERM INFORMATION Enrollment:

  • ENS 346.001 (#13323) - University Band; John Pasquale, instructor - Th 7:00–9:00 PM - audition required
  • ENS 346.002 (#34030) - Campus Band; Richard Frey, instructor - W 7:00–9:00 PM - playing assessment for seating required

* Both concert bands are a class through the School of Music, Theatre & Dance. Enrollment is required. (Please Note: be sure to use these exact course numbers as the two music major bands use the title "University Band" with a 347 number)

Borrowing an Instrument: 

We encourage you to play your own instrument. However, if you need to borrow an instrument for the term, we can help you.

Audition for University Band: 

Students interested in University Band should enroll in ENS 346.001. Audition information is included in the following link: https://goo.gl/forms/XC3A5Z6NjKgXIk982. All interested students should submit this form. 

Submit Playing Assessment for Campus Band:

**Students interested in playing in both ensembles or either ensemble should ONLY submit a UBand audition & indicate that information on their form**

Informational Meeting: 

Campus Band will have an informational meeting on the first Wednesday of the term at 7:00 PM in Revelli Hall. University Band will have an informational meeting on the first Thursday of the term at 7:00 PM in Revelli Hall. Information will be sent out via Canvas which, when you enroll, you will automatically be on the e-mail list and have access to everything you need.

WINTER TERM INFORMATION Enrollment:

  • ENS 346.001 - University Band; John Pasquale, instructor - M/W 4:45–6:15 PM - audition required - 3–5 minute video of your best playing exhibiting contrasting styles

    Concert repertoire difficulty: Medium Advanced - Difficult

  • ENS 346.002 - Campus Blue Band; Richard Frey, instructor - M/W 6:30–7:45 PM - All are welcome - playing assessment for seating required - 1–2 min video / full range chromatic scale

    Concert repertoire difficulty: Medium - Difficult

  • ENS 346.003 - Campus Maize Band; instructor TBA - W 8:00–10:00 PM - All are welcome - playing assessment for seating required - 1–2 min video / full range chromatic scale

    Concert repertoire difficulty level: Medium Easy - Medium Advanced 

    ensemble may also have interactions with students in Dr. Pasquale's Ensemble Pedagogy Techniques course

    **this ensemble is the best option for any student wishing to play a secondary instrument**

  • ENS 346.004 - Campus Band Chamber Winds - meeting time/date TBA - any wind or percussion players interested in rehearsing and performing in small chamber ensembles should contact Dr. Frey for more information - the ensembles will rehearse weekly (with coachings with Dr. Frey) at a time/day that fits within the group members' schedules
