About

The twirler section consists of 1-4 members, with one section leader. As a member of the twirler section and the MMB, you will have a valuable support system throughout your college career, helping you adjust to life in Ann Arbor and create life-long friendships.

MMB twirlers are highly competitive in various twirling organizations and are encouraged to represent Michigan at the national level of collegiate competition. Our current twirler, Shaelyn, is the 2017 National Collegiate Twirling Champion.

The MMB is excited to have Marcy Miller join the twirler section this fall!

Pre-audition

Pre-audition credentials can be submitted once the current band season ends. Twirlers are welcome to submit as soon as they hear back from University of Michigan admissions. Only twirlers who have been accepted to the university, or those who are deferred and see Michigan as their top choice school will be considered.

Each twirler is asked to compile the following:

  • Unedited film(s) showcasing a variety of twirling abilities

  • Twirling resume

  • Headshot

  • References either from a coach or high school band director (optional but recommended)

Pre-audition materials should be submitted to Dr. Pasquale (jdpas@umich.edu).

After all pre-audition materials have been reviewed, a live audition date will be set and only qualified individuals will be invited to join us on campus.

I love being able to twirl for the MMB because of the unique experiences and having the opportunity to meet so many people from all of the sections. Being able to share my passion of baton twirling not only with Shaelyn and the MMB, but with all of the fans is truly the best part and a dream come true.

I can’t believe how quickly the past three years have flown by! I’m grateful for the MMB family that has made Michigan feel like home since my very first day of band camp. I grew up a Michigan fan, coming to football games and always waiting in anticipation for pregame and halftime so I could watch the band and look for the twirlers. It still feels like a dream that I’m one of those twirlers now! I’ve been twirling my entire life, and I’ve made incredible memories along the way, but there’s truly nothing that compares to running out of the tunnel in the Big House surrounded by my incredibly talented best friends!

I am extremely excited for my very first season twirling at Michigan and getting to experience life as a member of the MMB. My whole life I’ve watched and looked up to many college twirlers and I can’t believe I am blessed with the opportunity to now be one myself. I am very thankful I was chosen to be part of such an incredible group of people and I can’t wait to perform with the MMB and Shaelyn in the Big House.
